The Catholic church ha reached poor and illiterate communities with the word of God.I am a Baptist myself,but I feel my church,Parklands Baptist Church,Nairobi,Kenya, has not reached common people in the way the Catholic Church has.Over this weekend I had a retreat at the Ressurection Garden,a few kilometers,from the City of Nairobi.As I walked through that garden, reading the scripture written on stone,right from the story of Adam in the Garden of Eden,Moses handing in the Ten Commandments,the conception of Jesus Christ, His teachings,especially the Sermon on the Mount,His crucifixion,His death and His ressurection,are portrayed so eloquently.Let us listen to what the common people say about their benefits from the Church.They will say better things about the Catholic Church than any other.

I have read what the panelists said and what questioners from the floor asked and commented on.I liked the reference to the ten commandments and the view that in the African society there are teachings which are made to us when we are being initiated into adulthood whose essence is moral.The debate focused on how the perpetraters/proponents of the Roman Catholic faith have failed,showing that extreme example of Sir Thomas More.The debate,especially from Christopher Hitchens,and Stephen Fry,did not touch on the inherent good of the Christian message as taught by the Roman Catholic Church.In criticising any religion we go off the point the moment we focus on the messengers.In Africa,for example,the miisionaries introduced Christianity without due regard to African culture and traditions,and in the process made so many blunders.And yet we cannot reject Christianity in Afriica because of the bad messengers.The Roman Catholic Church has sinned against children by having their best teachers turning on them and raping them.The church should accept its sin, cleanse itself, and using its “broken handle” move on with its work of preaching the Gospel to all nations.

Think you’re right about the change with the server. Google did recently roll out some (optional) updates to Google Docs, maybe that has something to do with it, though hopefully this problem will be rectified soon.

I am getting the same message with Firefox 3.5.9 since Friday 5/8/10, for tiny (< 60KB) files, with and without conversion, which points to some changes at the server level, otherwise this would not happen to dissimilar users. I don't (won't) have gmail, so no workaround for me. In any case, for anyone having to email files defeats the point of google docs.

Interesting… unfortunately, I didn’t have time to try it with any other browsers at the time. Might investigate further if the problem crops up again.

Thanks for the recommendation! “White Teeth” was definitely one of the best first-time novels I’d read in a while. Not sure if our local library has “On Beauty” in English though, must check that out.

If you enjoyed “White Teeth”, you should read “On beauty” by Zadie Smith, too. I read it a few yeas ago and it is still one of my favourite books ever! The characters are so lively, it’s so much fun to read!

I’ll admit that’s pretty slow, though it is a test of the connection’s upload speed. That’s probably advertised as 256kbps upload, which may be about right if we add in some overheads, and the fact that from the video it appears they were copying the file over a VPN (allowing Windows to pause the transfer for quarter of an hour whilst it checks free space requirements?). It’s still slow for broadband, and particularly for a business connection, but relatively speaking not all that bad for ADSL.

Regardless, I am tempted to repeat the pigeon experiment. Just need to find some inexpensive, lightweight USB keypens!

Hm, well, the pigeon’s bandwidth (including the hour it took them to transfer 4GB via usb, somehow) comes out as 4.55Mbps; if their DSL provider had managed 4% of the data in the same time, then of course their bandwidth is 1/25th of the pigeon’s, or 186.4Kbps. Kinda crappy for “broad”band, but still easily more than 2xISDN speed…
